New York Yankees Owner George Steinbrenner Dies

George Steinbrenner, was principal owner and managing partner of the New York Yankees, whose win-at-all-cost attitude turned the team into a billion-dollar sports empire, died July 13th, having just celebrated his 80th birthday on July 4th.  During Steinbrenner’s 37-year ownership from 1973 to his death, the longest in club history, the Yankees earned 7 World Series titles and 11 pennants.  Forbes last year estimated Steinbrenner’s net worth at $1.15 billion.
