$2.75 Million from WRS Compass for Victims of Race Harassment at Clean-Up Site

A Tampa-based environmental clean-up company has agreed to pay $2.75 million to resolve a race discrimination case brought the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). The lawsuit charged that WRS Environment and Infrastructure, Inc. (d/b/a WRS Compass) subjected seven black workers at its Lake Calumet, Illinois, site to a racially hostile work environment. TSA orders retraining in wake of recent racial profiling in Newark airport

After reports surfaced of racial profiling at airports in Newark, Honolulu and Boston, the Transportation Security Administration is ordering refresher training for behavior detection workers at 161 airports. In addition, the TSA is reviewing training, data collection and other elements of the nationwide program. Overweight Massachusetts Woman Outraged That She Was Refused Medical Treatment

Ida Davidson, a Massachusetts woman, is outraged after a doctor turned her away because of her weight. Davidson, of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts, claims that Dr. Helen Carter, a primary care physician at the UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worchester, refused to treat her because she is clinically obese. Manhattan VA Hospital helps women

In response to the alarming number of female veterans who have been sexually assaulted during tours of duty, Dr. Nancy Lutwak has launched a relief mission at the Manhattan VA Hospital. Dr. Lutwak has opened a female-only emergency room at the Manhattan VA Hospital to treat female veterans posttraumatic syndrome. Cuomo calls for Vito Lopez to resign in wake of censure for sexually harassing female staffers


Governor Cuomo has demanded Assemblyman Vito Lopez, also the boss of the Brooklyn Democratic Party, resign, stating “sexual harassment at the workplace cannot be tolerated in any shape or form.” Last week, the Assembly Ethics Committee determined he groped a female staff members and made inappropriate sexually charged remarks to others. Puyallup Truck Dealership Sued by EEOC for National Origin and Sexual Harassment

A Puyallup, Wash., used-truck dealership violated federal law when its general manager engaged in ongoing harassment targeting a Filipino American male employee. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has filed a lawsuit against the company. According to the EEOC, the male supervisor aimed demeaning comments at Northwest Motorsport’s Internet marketing manager, Bayani Salcedo, for many month. Hawaii Electric Company to Pay $50,000 to Settle EEOC Disability Discrimination Suit

Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc., will pay $50,000 and furnish other relief to settle a disability discrimination lawsuit filed. The lawsuit was filed by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). HECO, an electric distribution company, is the primary energy provider for the Hawaiian islands.
