Danny Evins, Restaurant Founder and Focus of Controversy, Dies at 76

Danny Evins, founder of Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, passed away on January 14, 2012, at the age of 76. Evins sparked controversy in 1991 after he defended a company directive to fire employees “whose sexual preferences fail to demonstrate normal heterosexual values.”

NY Governor Paterson Threatens to Lay-off One Thousand Workers

On July 29, 2010, Governor David Paterson warned Thursday that he will have to lay off at least 1,000 workers to help balance the state’s budget.  New York Daily News reports Stephen Madarasz, a spokesman for the state Civil Service Employees Union, declined to respond to Paterson’s prediction, but said the union believes the governor is obligated to honor a no-layoff agreement.  The state has more than 130,000 workers under Paterson’s direct control.  Read more: […]
