Religious Discrimination Claimed Against Veterans Affairs Officials

In Houston, TX, a lawsuit has accused Veterans Affairs officials of religious discrimination. The lawsuit was filed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars District 4, the American Legion Post 586 and the National Memorial Ladies. The lawsuit alleges the Houston National Cemetery for banning religious words such as “God” or “Jesus” and banning prayers at soldiers’ funerals.

Nivea Apologizes For Controversial Ad in Esquire

Skin care company Nivea has issued an apology for an advertisement that ran in Esquire magazine last month. The advertisement for Nivea for Men featured a clean-cut, African-American male holding what appeared to be a mask of a black man with an Afro hair style and a beard. The copy accompanying the ad read, “Look Like You Give a Damn. Re-civilize Yourself.”

Fired Air Marshal Loses Battle in Job Fight

A federal air marshal fired after revealing the government was cutting back air marshal coverage at a time of heightened hijacking concern has lost a major battle in his fight to reclaim his job. In 2003, federal air marshal Robert MacLean tipped off MSNBC reporter that the TSA was temporarily suspending missions that would require marshals to stay in hotels, which took them off coast-to-coast or overseas flights, just days after air marshals were briefed about a new "potential plot” to hijack U.S. airliners.

Age Discrimination Claimed By School Employee In Nashville, TN

In Nashville, TN, a Public Schools employee, Betty Russell, 62, is suing the system. She claims the school offered a position for which she was a candidate to a younger and less qualified employee-allegedly awarded based on “favoritism or some other consideration.”
