According to author Naomi Wolf, recent trends in the press have been veering toward biased views of women’s bodies. For example, the French publication, Closer, published photos of Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, topless. Additionally, the Pussy Riot trial and Arab Spring protests show women’s freedom being taken away. The author is stating publicly that women’s bodies are battlegrounds being used to wage culture wars in which it is being seen as scandalous when women take ownership of their own bodies.
